Senior WordPress Developer

This position requires a combination of programming skills (namely PHP, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, jQuery, Git, Ajax, Json, React and other programming languages) and aesthetics (understanding element arrangements on the screen, the color and font choices, and so on). As a Senior WordPress Developer at Blog Haveli, you will be responsible for both back-end and front-end development, including creating WordPress themes and plugins, solving exciting engineering challenges for large/small enterprises worldwide. You will be responsible for backend and frontend development, including maintaining a customer website and providing timely updates to the system, including WordPress core, themes, plugins, and any additional components.

WordPress Developer's Responsibilities

  • Deliver secure, scalable, and easy-to-maintain WordPress solutions using engineering best practices and coding standards.
  • Responsible for guiding technical discussions with both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Responsible for mutually agreed outcomes with clients, partners, and other stakeholders
  • Responsible for understanding how system functions contribute to the strategic direction of the business and the ability to make valuable contributions
  • Responsible for solving problems effectively by gathering insight from team members, ensuring that they have all the information they need for accurate analysis and consideration, involving them, and supporting them as needed
  • Responsible for identifying, analyzing, and solving problems systematically rather than solely by intuition or instinct; look for root causes, not just symptoms of the pain; weigh pros and cons of actions, and decide when to escalate issues.
  • Responsible for responding to production incidents, working on corrective actions, and ensuring timely updates of such to customers and other internal stakeholders and issues for communication and reference purposes.
  • Write and maintain technical project documentation, including inline code commenting, Git repo readme, and clear commit messages.
  • Respect timelines and communicate progress proactively. We are a remote team, so proactive communication is critical.
  • Help other engineers on the team through architectural reviews, code reviews, and other peer reviews.
  • Designing and implementing new features and functionality
  • Ensuring high-performance and availability, and managing all technical aspects of the CMS

Requirements

  • Comfortable with both object oriented and procedural programming methodologies.
  • Looking for Long Term employment with a fast growing internet company
  • Modifying existing code with new features available in current and future deployments of PHP/MySQL
  • Efficiently handles tasks in a reasonable amount of time
  • Creative mind to develop innovative and unique solutions to complex problems on high traffic websites
  • Experience with RESTful APIs and JSON.
  • Understanding of unit and functional testing best practices
  • Know the history of PHP versioning, especially the migration path from 5 to 7, 8
  • Know the differences between PHP CLI, PHP FPM and PHP NGINX
  • Capable of configuring a stable PHP application using php.ini on a variety of platforms
  • Capable of configuring and utilizing xdebug in your programming workflow
  • Capable of writing code that is compliant with PSR2 Standards
  • Advise and consult on WordPress development best practices, including coding standards, security, and performance.
  • Guide the team on architectural planning and decisions.
  • Providing code review and testing according to best practices.
  • Assist with theme and plugin development.
  • Design, develop, test, and refine internal tools to facilitate complex migrations of content from non-WordPress sites into WordPress sites and that support the team's work.
  • Participate in team-wide strategy and planning conversations.
  • Expert knowledge of WordPress development best practices, especially security and performance
  • Experience with developing and supporting high-profile, high-traffic WordPress websites.
  • Familiarity with Advanced JavaScript, React JS and CSS
  • Can work directly with the MySQL data layer using either CLI or GUI tooling
  • Can import / export data sets
  • You should be able to setup indexes and foreign key constraints
  • Understand relational data setup and performance bottlenecks
